The Widnes Wild Academy Under 12 team secured the EIHA North Under 12s League title after a narrow 6-5 win at home to Blackburn Under 12s at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday.

The victory meant that the Widnes youngsters could no longer be overtaken by title rivals Leeds U12s - who had already completed all their matches, and who they leapfrogged at the top of the league table. With two more games in hand left to play, they could extend their lead even further by the end of the season.

It has been a really good season for the Wild Under 12 team and they have been locked in a highly fascinating three-way battle for the title all season - along with Leeds and Manchester. They beat Manchester 10-5 at home and 5-7 away and have only dropped points to Leeds, losing 11-3 away in early February and then drawing 5-5 in the return match in Widnes.

The youngsters didn’t have much time to celebrate their title triumph, however, as they had to prepare for a long trip to the north east on Easter Sunday to play Whitley Bay with a 12 noon face off time!

That game finished with a 2-9 win for the Wild and the Under 12 team now round off their regular season with a home game against Kingston on Saturday 22nd April at Planet Ice Widnes, 4.20pm face off.
