Weekend Preview

The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild have a tough game this Sunday 12th February when they entertain title favourites Solway Sharks at Planet Ice Widnes, 5.30pm face off.

Widnes haven’t had the best of luck against the Sharks this season but recently installed player coach Joey Coulter is Dumfries born and bred and has played youth, SNL and NIHL hockey with the Solway organisation for many years, so nobody will have a better overview of Sunday’s visitors than him.

Solway are currently second in the Moralee Division table with 18 wins from their 20 league games this season so far. They are two points behind leaders Whitley Warriors who have 19 wins but have played 3 more games.

The Sharks have beaten Widnes home and away in the league already this season - although the last home league game did go to overtime - and also won over two legs in the Moralee Cup semi final so the Wild team will be keen to put in a good performance on Sunday.

Widnes are in 5th place in the table and are locked in a mid-table battle for league positions which will eventually decide the end of season play off pairings.

Solihull Barons currently have a 5-point advantage in 4th place and Blackburn and Deeside are closing up behind the Wild after improved results in recent weeks.

The game on Sunday faces off at 5.30pm, with doors opening at 4.45

For anybody who is not able to attend Sunday’s game, the Wild’s broadcasting partners BASN are livestreaming all home league games this season over the internet. Online viewing tickets can be booked to watch the game HERE
