Weekend Preview

The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild have a busy weekend coming up as they take on Solway Sharks on Saturday 21st January in the second leg of the Moralee Cup semi final at Planet Ice Widnes – 7pm face off - and then travel away for a crunch 4th v 5th league fixture at Solihull on Sunday,(5.30pm).

Solway have a 5-1 lead from the first leg of the semi–final so Widnes will have to put in a very special performance if they are to have any hope of retaining the trophy that they won last season. They will need to win Saturday’s game by a 5-goal margin – 5-0, 6-1, 7-2 – in order to progress through to the 2-legged final where they would take on the winners of the Whitley v Billingham semi final.

The league game away at Solihull on Sunday is just as important, however, with the Wild and the Barons so close on points and depending on the Barons’ result in their game against the ever- improving Dragons on Saturday, a win for Widnes on Sunday could see the Wild draw level on points in the Moralee table.

The quarter final pairings for the end of season play offs are determined by the final standings in the league table and the higher up a team finishes, the easier the draw they get so every league point is vital right up to the very last game.

The cup game on Saturday faces off at the later than usual time of 7pm with doors opening at 6.15.

For anybody who is not able to attend Saturday’s game, the Wild’s broadcasting partners BASN are livestreaming all home league games this season over the internet. Online viewing tickets can be booked to watch the game HERE

DMUK WIDNES WILD LADIES TEAM

The Wild Ladies team have a very important away game this Saturday 21st January when they travel to face the Telford Wrekin Raiders. The two teams met in a very closely contested game at Planet ice Widnes 2 weeks ago which resulted in a narrow 5-4 win for the Wild women and this game is likely to be quite a test.

Following Saturday’s game the Wild Ladies are away to Sheffield on Sunday 29th January and are then at home to Kingston on Sunday 5th February at Planet Ice Widnes.

WILD JUNIOR ACADEMY

The Wild Academy under 14 team take on the Telford Under 14 on Saturday - face off 4.20pm.

The Academy Under 18 game against Manchester which had been scheduled for 6pm on Saturday has been postponed due to the Wild’s Moralee Cup game now being played that evening and will be rearranged for a new date.

The Academy Under 10 team are away in Blackburn on Saturday taking part in a 4 team cross ice tournament, starting at 5.30pm.
