Sunday 29th January - WNIHL North 2

Sheffield Shadows 1 – DMUK Widnes Wild Women 4

The DMUK Widnes Wild Women moved up to second place in the Division2 North league table after a 1-4 win away over Sheffield Scimitars on Sunday.

Widnes were comfortably on top for much of the game, outshooting their hosts by almost 3 to 1, and their first goal came from Rachael Pearce in the 8th minute. The score remained 0-1 at the first period break but the Wild women edged further ahead just 54 seconds from the restart with a goal from Katy Fairclough.

Six minutes later, it was 0-3 to Widnes with a goal from Preston Gennoe but Sheffield eventually found the back of the net themselves at the mid-way point of the game and the score stood at 1-3 at the end of the second period.

The only goal of the third period came on 55 minutes and was scored by Leen de Decker to hand the Wild women a useful 1-4 victory.

The win sees the Wild women move up into second place in the league table, overtaking both Telford and Leeds who didn’t play at the weekend. The only other game in the division saw Solway Sharks Ladies win 2-4 away at Kingston, which means they lead the table with a 100% record of 7 wins from 7 starts. Widnes are 4 points behind them, having played the same number of games.

The DMUK Wild Women are next in action this Sunday 5th February when they take on the Kingston Diamonds at Planet Ice Widnes, 4.15pm face off. Representatives from the new team sponsors Debt Movement UK will be in attendance as VIP guests to formally launch the new DMUK branded home and away shirts.
