GM WEZ SPURRETT LEAVES THE WILD

The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild announce that General Manager Wez Spurrett has left the club with immediate effect.

Spurrett was appointed team manager early on in the 2021 Covid lockdown series and then elevated to GM shortly afterwards. During his time at the club, the Wild team won the North 21 Cup, the Division 1 National Championship, the 2022 Moralee Cup and achieved a third place finish in the Moralee Division.

Talking about his departure, Spurrett said:

“It is with great sadness that I leave the Widnes Wild with immediate effect. I want to thank every single fan, player and volunteer for all of their help and participation during my tenure at the club. Every interaction has meant a great deal to me.”

“A huge thanks to my partner in crime, Richard Haggar, for all the hours on the phone and the incredible effort he’s put in throughout my time at the club. But my biggest gratitude goes to Matt Lloyd. Thank you so much for the amount of faith you put in me to run your club. I am sorry I could not carry on your legacy.”

“Thank you to all that have helped me along the way, and I hope our paths cross again in the future.”

Wild club owners Danny Davies and Georgia Weekes said:

“We’re extremely thankful to Wez for all of the work he has put in to getting the club to where we are this season so far and we’re sorry to see him go. Wez has shown incredible dedication to his role since he took over as GM and it’s clear to see the great impact he has had on the club. We wish Wez the best of luck in the future and we’re sure it won’t be long at all until we see Wez back involved with league hockey in some way, shape or form!”

Player Coach Richard Haggar said:

“I would like to thank Wez for everything he has done over the last 18 months not only for the club but to assist me and the team to ensure everything runs smoothly. Personally, I wouldn’t be in the position I am now without him or had the success we had together so again thank you and I wish you all the best for your next adventure!”

An announcement regarding the club’s new GM will be made in the next few days.
