The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce the return of netminder Evan Coles for the forthcoming 2022/23 NIHL season.
Coles joined the Wild last summer, having previously had spells with Bradford Bulldogs and Sheffield Senators in the NIHL Laidler Division.
He was an important part of the Widnes team that finished 3rd in the Moralee Division and won the Moralee Cup last season, dressing for 29 games across all competitions and, despite mainly being used as a back up netminder, always put in a solid performance when called to stand between the pipes and was named Wild Player of the Month for November 2021 in a supporters’ poll.
Coles is a product of the widely-respected Sheffield junior development programme and turned out for them at Under 14, 16, 18 and 20 level, also making an appearance for the Midlands Under 11s conference team at Under 11 level.
To maximise his ice time and opportunities for further development, Coles will also play for the Altrincham Aces in the Laidler Division this season on a 2 – way arrangement which will benefit both teams.
Talking about re-signing for the Wild, Evan Coles said: “I’m glad to have been asked back to Widnes for another season and play with a good set of players, it’s a great place to play and have a lot of fun while doing so.”
Wild Player Coach Richard Haggar said of Coles: “Evan is an outstanding young goalie with bags of potential. In his first season at this level he stepped in several times last year and showed the quality he possesses. Evan is an excellent shot-stopper and is a big goalie with excellent movement. He is only going to continue to get better and better working alongside Miles Finney in our goalie tandem for this year, showing further what he is capable of and can do.”
Evan Coles will wear the number 35 shirt this season and his home, away and warm up shirts are available to “own and loan” at a cost of £80.00 per shirt for the season.
