Chris Gee Returns To The Wild

The YKK Widnes Wild are pleased to announce that utility player Chris Gee is rejoining the club for the 2022/23 season.

Originally from Saffron Walden, Chris previously played University hockey with the Manchester Metros team and played a few games with the Trafford Metros and Manchester Minotaurs in ENL North 1, after which he spent the 2014/15 season in Canada playing for Da Byes in division one of the Calgary Men’s Hockey Association (CMHA) league.

Gee originally joined the Wild for the 2015/16 season and then played some 40 Moralee Division games for the Deeside Dragons and Blackburn Hawks before rejoining Widnes in 2018.

He played for the Wild for three more seasons – counting the 2021 Covid series – and was a member of the team that won the Laidler Division league and play off double in 2019 and also the North 21 cup in 2021.

Wild fans may fondly remember that his last appearance in a Widnes shirt saw him ejected from the game after a serious run in with Blackburn Hawks’ bad boy Reece Cairney Witter!

Gee has spent some time away from ice hockey since then, as he explains:

“I’ve been spending a lot of time with my family and building my business in the last year. I’ve still been keeping very fit and in the gym more or less everyday and just working on a new improved me.”

Talking of Chris’s return to the Widnes, General Manager Jon Anderson said:

"It’s great to have Chris Gee back in a Wild jersey. Chris is a hardworking and very versatile hockey player and at 6’4” he also brings a physical presence to our defensive zone.”

“I've known Chris for many years now, he's a very determined player, he has a good work ethic and is constantly looking for ways to improve his game.”

Chris Gee will wear the number 46 shirt and his home, away and warm up shirts are available to “own and loan” at a cost of £80.00 per shirt for the season.
