The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are always keen to help develop young talent – both through the highly successful Wild Junior Academy and also by taking on players from other clubs under the EIHA’s 2-way contract system which allows players under the age of 23 to gain extra experience by training and playing with a team from a higher division than their own club.

16 year old Hull Jet Kohen Taylor is the latest young player to benefit from this arrangement, having played in both Wild games at the weekend.

He is the younger brother of Reaghan Taylor - who has also joined the Wild this season - and, with older sibling Cain Taylor also having played for Widnes very briefly at the start of last season, that makes it the first time that 3 brothers have all played NIHL hockey for the Wild team.

Kohen played his junior hockey with Hull’s Kingston set-up and has been selected for Conference teams at Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 levels.

He made his senior debut for the Hull Jets in the Laidler Division this season and has played 12 league and cup games with them so far, scoring 2 goals and 6 assists.

20 year old defenceman Alex Mitchell also joined the Wild on a 2-way deal with Bradford Bulldogs earlier in the season.

He made his Wild debut in the away game at Whitley on 11th September and has played in 10 matches so far this campaign. He has also made 9 appearances for the Bradford Bulldogs in the Laidler Division this season.

Mitchell is a product of the highly respected Bradford junior development system and has played over 120 games for them at various age levels. He was also selected for the North Conference teams at Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 level.

The 20 year old made his Bulldogs senior debut at the start of the 2018/19 season and currently has 61 Laidler league and cup games under his belt to add to his growing Moralee tally with the Wild.
