ANDREW HOPKINS JOINS THE WILD

The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce the signing of 25 year old forward Andrew Hopkins for the forthcoming 2022/23 NIHL season.

Hopkins has played for the Altrincham Aces in the Laidler Division for the past two seasons, where he scored 18 goals and 21 assists in 49 matches, acquiring 40 penalty minutes.

The Belfast born player has also iced for the Belfast Giants and Nottingham Under 20s teams and played university hockey for the Nottingham Mavericks from 2015 to 2019, scoring 31+15 in 39 games.

The arrival of Hopkins in Widnes means that the Wild squad for the new season will contain 6 former Altrincham players with Jonathan Williamson, Joe Wyatt, Mikey Gilbert and Joe Greaves all having made the switch along the M56 in the past and Ken Armstrong, who was an Altrincham junior.

Talking about joining the Wild for new season Hopkins said:

“I am looking forward to joining the Wild this season, and playing up a division from last year alongside a great group of guys and team behind the scenes. I can’t wait to get started, and play in front of the home fans!”

Wild Player Coach Richard Haggar said of Hopkins: “

“Andrew came to our player trial and showcased what he is capable of. He has an eye for goal, from the sessions he has been on so far with us, and isn’t afraid to get in the dirty areas. He also adds size to our team this year and is someone who adds real depth to our team going forward. This will be his first season at D1 level and is someone who has all the attributes to do well and will certainly give 100% every shift.”

Andrew Hopkins will wear the number 17 shirt this season and his home, away and warm up shirts are available to “own and loan” at a cost of £80.00 per shirt for the season.
